So, what’s frame lock?

Simply put, it’s quite like a liner lock mechanism. In general terms, the open and close systems are quite similar as the method remains same. The real difference in two variants comes in terms that a liner lock has a blade that engages a separate liner to lock the blade. On the other hand, frame lock has a whole portion of the frame engaged to lock the blade.

Used by many companies across the globe, it’s a common locking mechanism used in knives. Even the leading makers like Emerson have wonderful products based on similar mechanism. Frame lock knives are quite common and popular.

The working of frame lock

As the major feature with a frame lock mechanism, it has a part of the handle to move and lock the blade tang. While opening the blade away from the use, a section of the handle move inwards leaving the blade fully open. That section of the frame is separated to engage the lower portion of the blade under the pivot, thus avoiding closure. The thickness of the locking portion plays a key role in locking the blade securely. When it comes to releasing the lock, user has to simply push the locking element back to the side, thus keeping it out of the way. The blade tang is released and it allows folding.
